Fitness and Protecting Yourself From The Flu

For those of you who go to public fitness clubs, you are easy targets for picking up bacteria and germs from equipment that everyone touches thus leading to contracting the flu virus.  Here are some ways to avoid getting the flu while at the fitness centers.


1. Get the flu vaccination - If you get vaccinated early (at least 4 weeks early) you will develop an immunity against the flu virus.  And remember, a vaccination does not cost more than $50.  You can go to a free clinic or a pharmacy like Walgreens to get your flu vaccine.


2. Use antibacterial hand sanitizers like Purell or Germ-X before and after using the fitness club equipment. Make sure whatever  brand you choose to use, that it has 62% ethyl alcohol as its active ingredient.  If it is less than that it won't kill off viruses.


3. Take a couple teaspoons of honey if you feel a sore throat coming on.  Honey has a  antimicrobial effect and will soothe an irritated sore throat.


4.  Flush your nasal passages with a saline solution mist. One of the ways cold and flu viruses enter the body is through your nose. Do this before and after visiting your fitness club.


5.  Boost your vitamin C and vitamin D intake.  A study has shown that people with low levels of vitamin C were 36% more likely to get the flu.


6.  Gargle several times a day and reduce your chances of getting a cold by 36%.


7.  Eat your chicken noodle soup.  The steam from the liquid is a natural nasal decongestant. Hot tea is also a great nasal decongestant.


8.  Get a good nights sleep.  People who get less than 7 hours of sleep are 3 times more likely to catch a cold and get the flu.

Physical Fitness Means Living Better, Longer

Regular exercise can provide the basis for good health and wellness. In the past health meant only the absence of disease or illness. Today we define health in terms of physical, mental, social and emotional wellness. The health, fitness, and medical experts now regard exercise, practiced on a regular basis, as essential for achieving and maintaining good health.

Being physically fit does not guarantee you health. However, exercise is an essential component of good health.

Exercise is the basis for living a full life. It will help you bring your body, mind and spirit into concert. The effort it takes for you to be physically fit will help you to discover the individual within yourself.

A question you might ask is, how much exercise do I need to realize some health benefits? Perhaps you are concerned only about living longer. A recent study by the  Aerobics Research Institute indicates that even a little exercise appears to protect people from early death. The study analyzed the data of 13,334 men and women who were classified as healthy. Based on their treadmill testing results the participants were divided into five categories, ranging from least fit to most fit.
   

The research team followed these people to determine how their level of physical fitness related to their death rates. After eight years the inactive group (least fit) had a death rate more than three times greater than the very active group (most fit). However, the most interesting finding was that the death rate for group one (inactive) was two and one half times greater than that for group two (walking 30 minutes a day). Thus, in terms of reducing premature death, the study strongly suggests that a minimal amount of exercise tends to lower the risk of premature death from heart disease, cancer and other health-related causes.

In a similar study done strictly with men, findings were similar. The study consisted of 12,138 middle-aged men. The report results were that moderate levels of exercise resulted in one-third fewer deaths from all causes (including heart disease) compared to those who were sedentary.

These studies suggest that moderate exercise seems to be adequate for helping you to live longer and live life at your fullest potential. But, being physically fit is more that striving to live longer. Being physically fit is striving to live better. People exercise to maintain good physical appearance, have more energy to carry out daily tasks, sleep better, be able to eat nutritious foods without worrying about weight gain, improve their performance in a favorite sport or pastime, and, enjoy the feeling of being physically fit and possessing good health.

Consider the fitness truths listed below. These statements are what physical fitness and exercise is all about. Physical fitness is not getting by in life, it is about living every day to your fullest capacity. This goal is within the reach of anyone who educates themselves regarding fitness. Fitness exercise is for everyone. If you've had unhappy experiences in athletics or physical education in the past, take heart. Not having the ability to be a great athlete isn't what is important, reaching a point where you become the best YOU can be, is.

Health is wealth. By being physically fit, it can make a person look lean both inside and out.

There is a lot a person can do such jogging or walking in the morning, playing basketball or any other sport with friends but if a person wants to have muscles and look lean, the best thing to do will be to sign up and workout in a gym.

Just like taking any medicine, one should first consult the doctor before undergoing any form of exercise.

Physical exercise is beneficial because it helps maintain and improve ones health from a variety of diseases and premature death. It also makes a person feel happier and increases ones self esteem preventing one from falling into depression or anxiety. It has also shown to make a person with an active lifestyle live longer than a person who doesn’t.

The best exercise plan should have cardiovascular and weight training exercises. This helps burn calories and increase the muscle to fat ratio that will increase ones metabolism and make one either gain or lose weight.

A person who has never worked out before should do it gradually. Doing it too much for the first time can make one pull a muscle or have an injury making it worse. Endurance will never be built in a day and doing it repeatedly will surely be good to the person.

Focusing on certain portion in the body can help make it improve. A good example is going to the gym and doing a workout more often in a specific area such as the abs can give one a chest pack.

But beauty is not only about having muscles which is what people can see. It is also about enhancing the beauty within.

Here are some things one can do everyday to stay beautiful and healthy;

· Reading books and other reading material more often keeps the mind sharp just like working out keeps the body in shape.

· Work no matter what kind it is produces stress. One can reduce this by taking the time out to do something special like lying in a hot tub, shopping or watching a movie. Studies have shown it is reliever and helps one from looking haggardly.

· Pollution is something people cannot control given the size of the problem. When one goes out, it is best to put some form of protection such as beauty products that contain antioxidants that protect the skin from damage. There are also other beauty products available and choosing the right one with the help of a dermatologist can help the person.

· Another way to stay healthy is to give up some vices. Most people smoke and drink. Smoking has been proven to cause lung cancer and other diseases as well complications for women giving birth. Excessive drinking has also shown to do the same.

· For people who don’t smoke, it is best to stay away from people who do since studies have shown that nonsmokers are also at risk of developing cancer due to secondary smoke inhalation.

· Lastly, it is best to always start the day with a positive outlook. Just as studies have shown that exercise makes a person feel happier, smiling produces the same effect. A smile can do a lot and it is contagious in a positive sense. It brightens the day of not only one but others as well.

Fitness

Welcome to the "Ultimate Fitness World".  Here at the "Ultimate Fitness World", we will explore all aspects of fitness. Just as no two people are identically the same, it is also true that no two fitness programs are the same.

Now, I know that some of you are new to fitness and some have been experimenting with the various fitness programs and then, there are those of you who live your life wholeheartedly by rigorously working a fitness program.  So, for those of you who are new to fitness, you will start reading a ton of information and begin to feel overwhelmed and become discouraged. It doesn't have to be that way at all. On this site, I will provide blocks or small chunks of information on fitness in general. This way, you can absorb and retain only the fitness information that you need that is right for you.  As for those who are experimenting with different fitness techniques and programs, this too will be useful for you because you can skip over the parts of fitness you have tried and find new fitness ideas to use. For the experienced fitness people out there, your ideas and input are absolutely invaluable to the two previous groups I have mentioned. Not only that but I will be keeping everyone informed of all the new fitness equipment, techniques, tips, fitness clubs and so much more.
